Plague Days 2020: Getting sick
So it's been an epic week (most popular phrase of 2020). A few days ago I realized the pain in my chest and the fatigue I'd been feeling were actually symptoms and not stress. I started wheezing and struggling to breathe at night and recognized that maybe the reason Phoebe and I were under the weather is that we went to Carnaval last month with over a million people present.
We began nebulizer treatments and I tried not to panic that we were bringing my other daughter into a diseased situation. Not that we had a choice. There was nowhere else for them to go. They couldn't stay in Missouri with no jobs or money. So when they arrived last week we set them up to quarantine at a hotel nearby. They also gave me a very late Christmas gift of an incredible paintbox.

I painted this curly snake creature in my creature design sketchbook on one of my worst days with the virus.
I also painted this in my creature design sketchbook. I call him "Purple bird blob".
This week we heard from our friend Amira in Morocco. She's terribly ill and has only 40% healthy lung left. She got the virus from her parents who only had mild symptoms. This hit me like a punch in the gut. Her country is on strict lockdown. People are arrested for violating the rules and need papers to go outside.
Giving this virus to my family has me so freaked out, and getting everyone to maintain quarantine is a constant struggle. (Really, constant!) It's a horrible added stress. How are all you lovely people out there handling it?!! I'm not, I'm really not.
Anyway, I'm on the mend, so that's good! We'll get through this together (while being apart). I hope.
